COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Frank Seeley Papers are comprised of biographical information, a dissertation, memoranda, photographs, printed materials, a speech draft, and sound recordings. The papers primarily relate to the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) and its programs for members of the armed forces. The collection consists of one series, a Subject File, arranged alphabetically by record type.

Most of the materials within the collection are sound recordings (vinyl records, reel-to-reel tapes, and cassette tapes) created by the AFRS. These recordings have been transferred to the Truman Library's audiovisual collection. Lists of the recordings are filed in the Seeley Papers under "Sound Recordings." The programs recorded include comedy, variety, western music, country music, sports, classical music and pop music shows. Photographs taken during AFRS recording sessions are included in the collection along with a dissertation which provides a history of the AFRS to 1946. The memoranda and printed materials found in the collection relate predominantly to the actors and activities of the AFRS.

The speech draft is an undated document created by Seeley for use by Harry S. Truman during the Christmas season.
