COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Sol Stolowy consist of programs and other printed material relating to celebrations of Harry S. Truman's birthday and the annual presentations of the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award. The birthday programs date from 1970 to 1972; the programs for the Good Neighbor Award date from 1973 to 1995. Included with the programs are reproductions of notes from dignitaries wishing Truman well, Congressional resolutions, and newspaper or magazine articles.

The papers also include a newsletter summarizing the historical collections of the Harry S. Truman Library in 1970, and a transcript of remarks at a program celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Truman Presidency in 1970.

Stolowy was a Kansas City tailor who made several suits for Harry S Truman from the time Truman was president until his death. Truman was buried in a summer suit made by Stolowy shortly before Truman’s death.

The Truman Library also has a transcribed oral history interview with Sol Stolowy, which was conducted by the Harry S Truman National Historic Site, National Park Service.
