COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Washington Times-Herald Clippings Collection consists of newspaper clippings primarily related to Harry S. Truman and Dean Acheson. The collection is arranged in one series, a Clippings File, which is arranged alphabetically.

The series consists of newspaper articles, editorials and political cartoons. Most of the clippings in this collection relate to the daily events that occurred during the Truman administration from 1945-1953. Also included are clippings about Harry S. Truman as Senator, Vice President and former President. Specific topics include civil rights, conferences, the economy, defense, foreign policy, Korea, the Marshall Plan, the 1948 presidential election, the 1949 Inauguration, politics, price control, and Russia. Additional clippings are related to President Truman's messages to Congress, speeches, press conferences, and Truman family members.

Most of the materials related to Dean Acheson cover the years of 1949-1953, while he was Secretary of State.

Related collections at the Truman Library include the papers of Harry S. Truman and Dean Acheson, the Kansas City Star Clippings Collection, and the New York Times Clippings Collection.
