![]() Log of the President's Second Visit to Key West, March 12-19, 1947. |
Summary: President Truman visited Key West, Florida for the second time in mid-March 1947. The President originally intended to go to Key West earlier and then go on a short cruise, but changed plans because of the problems related to the Communist rebellion in Greece. Before leaving for this vacation, Truman addressed Congress, asking for aid to Greece and Turkey and making public for the first time ideas that would become known as the Truman Doctrine. It was also during this trip that Miss Margaret Truman made her radio singing debut, which the President and his party listened to on March 16th. |
