COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

This collection of the Records of the United States Senate (Record Group 46) consists of copies of bills, amendments, and resolutions that were introduced by Senator Harry S. Truman during his first term in the United States Senate. The date span of the collection only covers Truman’s first three years in the Senate, from 1935 to 1938.

Included are many bills concerning military appointments, bridges across the Missouri River, and the granting of pensions to individuals. Other bills introduced by Truman provided for the establishment of a General John J. Pershing National Military Park, the building of a monument on the Civil War battlefield at Lone Jack, Missouri, and the creation of a commercial airport in the vicinity of the nation’s Capital. The amendments in the collection pertain to the Interstate Commerce Act and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation Act.
