COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
The papers of Howard Sachs are comprised of correspondence and other materials mostly concerning the Sachs family and its relationship with the family of Harry S. Truman.
The collection includes correspondence from Bess and Margaret Truman to members of the Sachs family; materials relating to the construction of the Jackson County Courthouse, including floor plans and letters from Charles Sheldon, Nicholas Murray Butler, H.L. Mencken, and Charles Evans Hughes suggesting inscriptions to be placed on the walls of the Courthouse; documents relating to the immigration case of Paul Matzdorff, a cousin of Sachs’s father, Alex Sachs; newspaper clippings and articles pertaining to the Sachs family relationship with Harry S. Truman; photographs of the dedication of the Truman Library in 1957; and correspondence between Howard Sachs and the staff of the Truman Library.
Some of the items in the collection were previously opened for research as part of the Miscellaneous Historical Documents Collection (MHDC).
