COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Papers of Louis W. Truman document part of the military career of President Harry S. Truman’s second cousin. They are arranged in one series, a Chronological File, and consist of newspaper articles, certificates, correspondence, and photographs that were originally compiled in three scrapbooks and a photo album. These materials document General Truman’s activities as Commander of the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington (1958-1960); as Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Continental Army Command at Fort Monroe, Virginia (1962-1963); as head of a special U.S. military mission to the Congo (December 1962); and as Commanding General at the VII Corps at Stuttgart, Germany (1963-1965).
