Tom Brokaw

On December 1, 2004, when Tom Brokaw stepped down after 21 years as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, he was regarded as the most popular news personality in the United States.

During Tom Brokaw's tenure, NBC Nightly News became the most watched cable or broadcast news program in the United States. Brokaw also hosted, wrote, and moderated programs and documentaries on a wide range of topics; his series on "The Lost Boys" in the Sudan won a National Press Club Award. Other awards include the prestigious Peabody Award in 1989 and 2004, an Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement, and the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award. Brokaw has an impressive series of "firsts," including the first exclusive one-on-one interview with Russian president Mikhail Gobachev, which earned him the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award.

Complementing his distinguished broadcast journalism career, Brokaw is a best-selling author whose titles include The Greatest Generation and, most recently, Boom! Voices of the Sixties.
In 2008, as the Truman Library celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Truman's Whistlestop campaign, Tom Brokaw will bring his unique perspective on the current election, as well as recollections of past campaigns.
