00:00The film begins with airplanes and a blimp flying over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
00:22The parade footage begins with the United States Army Band. This first section of the parade includes President Harry S. Truman and other VIPs riding in cars, accompanied by military formations and marching bands.
01:53The first float of the parade – the District of Columbia float – appears, followed by the Missouri state float and a four-mule team representing Lamar, MO, birthplace of the president.
02:29The state of Kentucky is represented by Gov. Earle C. Clements in a car, its state float, and a float honoring the coal industry. The Pennsylvania state float follows.
02:43More state floats proceed down the parade route.
04:16The state of Maryland is represented by Gov. WM. Preston Lane in a car, its state float, the Leonard Hall Military Academy, the Southern Maryland Riding Club, and the Oxon Hill Ramblers.
04:42The South Carolina state floats signal the end of the second division of the parade. The next wave of floats and performances includes representations from Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
06:10The Illinois state float is joined by a Chicago-specific float. A giant heart on the float reads, “Chicago’s heart turned the tide to victory.”
06:34The state of Alabama is represented by Gov. James E. Folsom in a car, its state float and several marching bands.
06:53The fifth division of the parade begins. This includes the Army Ground Forces Band, the WAC Company of the U.S. Army, marching bands from high schools in Pennsylvania (Liberty High School) and Michigan, state floats from Florida and Texas, and the Miami Police.
08:36The parade continues with marching bands and military formations. State floats shown include California, West Virginia (which looks like a miniature train), Nevada, and Nebraska.
09:56The Montana Mounted Indian Chief rides a horse down the parade route.
09:59The Idaho state float appears, followed by floats from Oklahoma, Hawaii, and the Virgin Islands, as well as various veteran’s organizations. Bringing up the rear is a float from the American Federation of Musicians.
