00:28August 31: At the Washington National Airport, a crowd of well-wishers awaits Truman’s departure.
01:57August 31: The President goes aboard his first flight on the Independence.
02:37Aloft, the President visits the cockpit.
03:40Waller Field, Trinidad, August 31: The Independence arrives at 4:50 p.m. The President is greeted by his Excellency, the Governor Sir John Shaw.
09:38September 1: They arrive at Galeao Airport and embark across the bay from Galeao to Rio, where President Truman is met by President Dutra.
12:00The President is accorded a gala welcome as he proceeds by automobile to the American Embassy Residence.
13:11Scenes along the Praia de Botafogo, with Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background, followed by scenes of Rio’s beautiful harbor.
14:52September 2: The President goes aboard the Missouri, where he entertains President Dutra, Brazilian dignitaries and delegates to the Quitandinha Conference.
15:28September 5: The President strolls about the beautiful gardens of Laranjeiras Palace (Brazil’s Blair House). The President and his family live here from September 4 to September 7.
18:47Copacabana Beach: Others of the party stayed at the Copacabana Palace Hotel.
19:41September 7: President Truman and President Dutra witness Brazil’s colorful military parade commemorating the 125th anniversary of their independence. More than 35,000 troops participated.
31:50The parade over, they embark in the battleship Missouri and depart for home.

35:11September 11: Approaching the “Line”, King Neptune and his Royal Court come aboard. There is a colorful crossing-the-equator ceremony.
