00:00President Harry S. Truman enters the Ararat Temple in Kansas City, MO. The assembly hall is filled with cheering crowds while “Hail to the Chief” plays. Truman is accompanied by a group of marching Shriners. He leaves the group to approach the stage along with the Shriners’ Master of Ceremonies.
00:50At the podium, President Truman begins his remarks. He greets the audience and begins to speak about his presidency and its particular challenges. He speaks to the necessity of avoiding atomic war and heavily emphasizes his desire for everyone to strive for continuing peace.
03:30He thanks the organization for the honors bestowed on him that day, becoming a member of the Shriners’ Legion of Honor (Shriners’ division; membership of Nobles that have served in the nation’s armed forces) and having a ceremonial named for him.
