TITLE OF
POSITION: Administrative Clerk

PURPOSE OF JOB:
To assist staff with a variety of administrative functions to allow
more timely
distribution and easier access of material.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE
BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Photocopying.
2. Filing correspondence
and related materials; making folders as necessary.
3. Preparing, sending,
and/or logging faxes.
4. Transferring
and compiling statistics with use of a calculator.
6. Distributing
publications.
7. Filing and sorting
vendor catalogs.
8. Replying to
requests for information.
9. Typing labels
for envelopes.
10. Proofreading
documents and letters.
11. Computer related
tasks:
A. Formatting
label/envelopes, letter, mailing lists
B. Proofreading documents and letters
C. Database entry
D. Creating forms
E. Spread sheet related work
F. Searching on the Internet
COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
A minimum commitment of two-four hours a week in one sitting, generally
for a 3-month period.
QUALIFICATIONS
NEEDED:
Must be age 16
or older
Reliable, responsible, flexible
Able to work independently
Able to accept supervision
Capable of performing repetitive tasks and detail oriented
Typing at 40-45 wpm helpful
Good understanding of sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation
To provide computer work, familiarity with some or all of the following
is important:
Microsoft Word '97, Excel '97
Access 2.0, Netscape, and database entry
Windows 3.1 or above
TRAINING/ORIENTATION
PROVIDED:
Initial orientation.
Basic reading material on the life and times of Harry S. Truman.
Attend at least one tour.
View the Charles Guggenheim film.
On-the-job training provided by Truman Library staff.
