
The day after his inauguration, the President attended at 9:00 a.m. breakfast in the Speaker's Dining Room of the Capital. The breakfast was given by the Missouri Delegation in Congress.
At 10:00, the President met with General Ralph Truman and other people in his office during the 10:00 hour.
At 11:00, Dean Acheson was in sworn in as Secretary of State. The ceremony took place in the Oval Office.
At 12:00, the President and Mrs. Truman went to an inaugural lunch that was held by the Womans Division of the Democratic National Committee. The lunchon was held in Interdepartmental Auditorium.
The President went back to the Oval Office at 3:45. He met with Mrs. H.D.Grosier and her family. They were the owners of the Boston Post newspaper.
The rest of the evening was spent attending receptions. At 4:40 p.m., the President and his family left for the Wardman Park Hotel. This reception was given in their honor by the Secretary of the Treasury, and his wife. At 7:00 p.m., the President and his family left for the Shoreham hotel. They attended a reception given in their honor by Senator and Mrs. McGrath. After the reception, the Trumans went home to Blair House.
At 10:20 p.m., the Trumans left Blair House. They went back to the Shoreham Hotel where they attended an inaugural reception, and ball for Vice President Alben W. Barkley.
