On this day Truman traveled through both Minnesota and Wisconsin, visiting Mankato, Waseca, Rochester, and Winona, MN, as well as Sparta, Elroy, Madison, Waukesha, and Milwaukee, WI. the President gave a speech in Madison which focused on attacking Republicans for submitting to lobbyists as well as supporting his views on a federal housing law (Speech 238). To learn more about President Truman's views on federally funded housing, visit his 1947 State of the Union Address. Truman also spoke in Milwaukee and discussed atomic energy (Speech 239). Although Dewey still led in the polls, by this day the size of the crowds gathering to hear Truman had increased significantly.
