Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

October 30, 1948

The last minute revisions for the speech that day forced the team to hand it to the typist page by page. They were so " punch-drunk with exhaustion", they had little idea about the quality of the speech. By nightfall they reboarded the train for the final three stops at Bellefontaine, Ohio at 12:15 p.m., Terre Haute, Indiana 3:30p.m. and Mattoon, Illinois 4:53 p.m.

Still ahead to look forward to was the climactic address of the campaign, at 8:25 p.m. in the Kiel Auditorium in St.Louis.
