Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

November 11, 1948

This morning the group going to the beach included about fifty newspaper reporters and photographers who had been invited to leave their pencils and paper behind for an "off the record" swim.

President Truman did not attend the local VFW services, but instead sent General Vaughan as his representative.

A number of official photographs were made this day. First of all, the entire party billeted at Key West posed for a group photograph. Later in the afternoon Truman posed with Senator J. Howard McGrath, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and Mr. William M. Boyle, Assistant to the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
