Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

November 12, 1948

The day the President had been looking forward to arrived: Mrs. Truman and Margaret arrived by train late in the afternoon on the 12th. The President caused a stir when he arrived at breakfast this morning: his "vacation stubble" had disappeared - probably in honor of the imminently expected Truman women!

One of the military personnel stationed at Key West was invited to visit the President on the 12th, Lieutenant Helen Rickard, Nurse Corps, U.S. Navy. The reason the President invited Miss Rickard is because she had accompanied the President's mother on her return to Grandview, Missouri on her last visit to the White House.

After dinner this evening the President, who had been joined for dinner by his wife and daughter, stayed with them and watched the feature film this evening, "Apartment for Peggy", starring Jeanne Crain. The President then escorted Bess and Margaret to their quarters about the yacht the WILLIAMSBURG.
