Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

November 19, 1948

On the morning of November 19, accompanied by many people, Mr. Truman left the Little White House and walked to the beach where he lost his eye glasses while swimming in the heavy surf. He did find them later, on the beach. That afternoon, Mr. Truman had lunch at the Little White House. After lunch, he walked to the WILLIAMSBURG where he met up with Mrs. Truman and her guests.

At about 2:30 p.m., he rested until 4 p.m. Dinner was served at 7:30 p.m. where Mr. John A. Kennedy, editor of the San Diego JOURNAL, was a guest. The dinner was highlighted by a gracious testimonial to the President by Speaker Rayburn.

After dinner, everyone moved to the living room where they watched a showing of the latest Warner-Path newsreel about the reception accorded the President on his return to Washington after his reelection. A screening of the feature "Luck of the Irish" followed.

Speaker Rayburn left after the President retired at 11:30 p.m. Mr. Kennedy returned to his hotel in Key West.
