Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

November 8, 1948

Monday, November 8th, set the routine for the remainder of the trip. After eating breakfast and reading a number of morning newspapers the president and his party walked to the beach and spent several hours "loafing in the sun." The President and a number of others in his party "enjoyed a brief dip in the surf."

Typical of President Truman's concern for others around him was a side-trip he made on his afternoon walk this Monday. Truman stopped unannounced at the building where the press was headquartered. He told those present that he didn't have any news, he was simply checking to make sure their accommodations were comfortable.

Dinner was served at 7 p.m. and once again others in the group watched a movie, this time "Southern Yankee" starring Red Skelton. But, President Truman retired to his suite at 8:15 p.m. and spent the remainder of the evening there.
