Another busy day---Whistle Stops in Lordsburg and Deming, New Mexico plus El Paso, Valentine, Marfa, and Sanderson, Texas

Address at El Paso, Texas 11:20 AM Flag draped platform at the station September 25, 1948

This speech talks about many things. Mr. Truman talks about the reclamation program and how Republicans were fighting against the program. Supposedly this program was a great help. The reclamation program irrigated over millions of acres and generated kilowatts of power. Truman also talks about the differences in Democrats and Republicans attitudes. Truman claims that Republicans want to turn the electric power over to "highjackers", so it will be more expensive. Truman says he does not want to let this happen. Now you know why Harry S. Truman became our President in 1945-1952.

Valentine , Texas Rear Platform remarks September 25, 1948

Harry S. Truman, president of the United States of America, was traveling across the great state of Texas in late September. Traveling with Truman were Governor Jestor, Sam Rayborn, Ken Reagan the Attorney General of the United States, Tom Clark. At approximately 5:20 P.M. in the small town of Valentine, Texas, Truman's train came to a halt. In the speech Truman said that the issue in the campaign was the difference between the interests of the country as a whole and special interests trying to take over the govenment. The Rebublican 80th Congress, nicknamed the "do nothing" Congress, was for special interests run by lobbyists not interested in the welfare of the people. Election day will be between people and special interests. As a parting comment, meant to encourage people to vote, Truman said, " Do your duty on that day, and you will not be sorry for it."
