Shawnee, Olkahoma: Rear platform remarks 7:35 A.M.

On September 29, 1948, Harry S. Truman gave one of his Whistle Stop speeches to the people of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Being in a state with a large agricultural population, he informed the people of the benefits of voting for him and other Oklahoma Democrats. Truman reminded farmers of Republican attempts to cut the national budget for the Mid-West by 37 percent. Truman said this attempt was led by Congressman John Taber of New York, who, along with other Republicans, didnt care about the needs of Mid-West farmers. Truman told the people he could represent them more effectively than Republicans, and to show Democrats their support with their votes.
