Truman had a typical day full of meetings. Listed below are the appointments: Received the Naional Commander and State Department Commanders of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. Met with the Attorney General Received a visit from a group of Kansas City Shriners inviting Truman to a Shrine ceremony. (note Truman was a mason and former Grand Master) Received the newly appointed U.S. Minister to Liberia, Honorable Edward R. Dudley. Met with Senator Elbert Thomas from Utah Received Reverend Thomas W. Fryer, of New Bern. N.C., an outstanding Baptist minister who would be visiting Bern, Switzerland on a sister city exchange. He presented Truman a gavel made from cypress wood. Met with the former President of Venezuela and the Venezuelan Amabassador. Received officers from the Supreme Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America Met with the Secretary of Commerce After lunch, met with Under Secretary of Interior and later, Johnathan Daniels. At a press conference held on Sept 8, Secretary George Marshall stated that the United States policies toward the former Italian colonies had been formulated with bipartisan approval. He also denounced attacks by communist-led mobs on the City Government of Berlin. He said that Communist efforts to disrupt conferences on the future status of Berlin must be firmly resisted and that he hoped the talks could proceed in a quiet and orderly atmosphere.
