| The Kukri ceremonial sword from Nepal was presented to President
Truman by the prime minister of Nepal on July 30, 1946.
The crossbow came from Carnicobar, a small island in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Burma. The Mah or chief of the Nicobarese sent the crossbow and other gifts to the president. A Danish stone axe, unearthed by archeologists, was believed to be used by Vikings along the coast of Denmark 45,000 years ago. The axe was a gift from a delegation of Danish press representatives in September of 1949. |
