Mrs. Mitchell's fifth grade class at Glendale Elementary enjoyed working on their projects for the daily Truman trivia. After spending time rotating through centers containing encyclopedias, newspaper and journal articles, books, and most interestingly primary source documents, students brainstormed a list of interesting facts they had discovered about Mr. Truman. At this point, students divided into pairs based on similar interests to do more in depth study on a topic of their choice. As happens with many young students, several became fascinated with the concept of the atomic bomb and were very excited about researching it. Others were interested in his life as a young boy, things he liked to eat, or his family relationships. The idea that a United States president actually lived in our town finally became real to them. They hope you enjoy the interesting facts they have uncovered, as much as they enjoyed discovering them. |
