Atomic Bomb

On July 24, 1945 President Harry S Truman made a decision to drop an atomic bomb. Many people questioned the decision to drop this bomb, but Truman believed that if he did not drop the bomb many more people would die from the war. On July 16, 1945, the first atomic bomb was tested.

After all the testing the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. It killed thousands of people. Japanese war leaders still refused to surrender. Then on August 9, 1945 another bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki. On September 2, 1945, Japan finally surrendered and World War II finally came to an end. Truman worked hard after the war ended to seek peaceful uses of atomic energy.
