Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

February 13, 1999

Ms. Florence Cannariato e-mailed us that in the summer of 1947 she was attending a convention of Girl Scouts from all over the world. After the conference ended, they went to Washington D.C. The White House was being renovated, so he was living in the Blair House which is much smaller than the Wffite House. There was not enough room for all 150 delegates to eat in the Blair House, so they had long tables on the lawn. They had a lovely banquet with President and Mrs. Truman.

President Truman told them that such organizations as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other youth organizations would help prevent wars.
