After Harry S. Truman became President, he recalled "a little library in Independence, with some three or four thousand volumes in it . . . From the time I was twelve I spent hours in the library and in reading the books I took out of the library, i ncluding the encyclopedias . . ." The library resided at Ott School, which was the high school at that time.

The Harry S. Truman Library and Museum is one of thirteen Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.
