Great Men
and Famous Women

When Harry was around ten years old, his mother purchased a four-volume collection of biographies by Charles Francis Horne, The Lives of Great Men and Famous Women. He kept the set throughout his life and it now resides in the Truman Library .

"The lives of great men and famous women intrigued me," Harry wrote, "and I read all I could find about them."
