Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

Thomas Hart Benton

Harry enjoyed reading the memoirs of great men like Thomas Hart Benton, a Missouri senator . . . (not to be confused with the famous artist of the same name).

He said, " . . . I read everything I could get my hands on about men who made history. The simplest conclusion I reached was that the lazy men caused all the trouble and those who worked had the job of rectifying their mistakes."
