The Berlin Airlift - Affect on Children

The picture on the left shows a small girl in West Berlin bringing home a ration of bread to her family. The bread was made from American flour that had been flown into West Berlin during the Berlin Airlift. Ironically the bread was wrapped in a Soviet newspaper. The newspaper's headline was demanding an end to the airlift.
