Choose a project below that interests you and circle the number of your choice. Begin your planning sketch or rough draft on this sheet of paper. Your final project will be graded on neatness, creativity, effort, and attention to detail.
- You are a poet -- Create a poem emphasizing some aspect of the White House (its beauty, importance as a symbol of democracy, etc.).
- You are an architect or an interior designer -- Create a room that your family would add to the White House if your father or mother were President of the United States. Show where the room would be on a blueprint. Draw a picture of the room. Write a paragraph telling about your addition. (For example, President Truman added the balcony so that his family could sit outside and enjoy the view.)
- You are a composer or a lyricist -- Compose a song about the White House (its beauty, history, importance as a symbol of democracy, etc.). Make a recording of it.
- You are an artist -- Design a new set of White House china. The design should reflect what you think the President's mission statement should be. (For example, a wish for world peace, an improved standard of living for all, saving the endangered wildlife, or an end to pollution.) Draw how your design would look on at least three pieces (Example, a plate, teacup, and bowl) or actually create the china. Write a paragraph telling about your mission and the china design.
- You are an inventor -- Create a new piece of technology that you think will be needed in the White House in the year 2001 or beyond. Draw a detailed diagram and label all the parts or build a three-dimensional model of the invention. Write a paragraph describing the technology, telling why it will be needed and how it works.
- You are an author and/or an illustrator -- Create a book - fiction or nonfiction - about the White House. It could be a shape book, pop-up book, multimedia storybook . . . whatever. Illustrate it yourself or collaborate with someone else.
