1948 Democratic National Convention BadgesDescription
These badges for President Harry S. Truman, Mrs. Bess W. Truman, and Margaret Truman, gave permission to the Trumans to go anywhere during the Democratic National Convention, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Everyone attending the convention wore a badge, giving them access to specific parts of the convention hall, depending on the ribbon color and configuration of the badge. Notice that the title on Margaret's badge (on the right) is listed as "Assistant to the President." Margaret noted in her diary that J. Howard McGrath, Democratic National Committee Chairman gave her the badge.
