Truman Library: Memo from the U.S. State Department to President Harry S. Truman, dated January 27, 1947, transmitting the nomination of Francis Biddle as U.S. representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, together with a biographical sketch of Biddle as well as Biddle's June 30, 1947 letter to Truman requesting withdrawal of his nomination and Truman's July 12, 1947 reply stating that Biddle's request would be honored.
