to get a picture of them with the President and has talked
to Mr. Charles Ross about this)

(Stayed over and delayed departure for post in order to see
the President. Had intended leaving last Saturday. Mr. Woodward
thought that in view of fact that Mr. Butler's post is a
"hot one" it might help him a lot if he saw the President
before going)

2:55 pm (The President with Naval and Military Aides and Acting Secretary
of State Acheson, motored to Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.
where they called on former Secretary of State, Hon. Cordell
Hull and the President presented him with the Medal for Merit.)
