|[Log of President Truman's Trip: Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Key West, Florida]|
The President left Key West by plane at 4:00 a.m.|
for San Juan, Puerto Rico. He arrived at the Isla
Grand Airport at 10:30 a.m. He was given the honors
and made an inspection of the guard. The President
made a few remarks which were translated into
Spanish. At 11:00 a.m. the President and his
party took a sightseeing tour by automobile visiting
industrial areas developed by Puerto Rico Industrial
Development Company - glass bottle factory, cement
factory and boxboard plant; the Puerto Nuevo low-
cost housing development; the Bayamon District
Hospital and Aguas Buenas.
At 12:30 p.m. the President attended a luncheon at
the Hotel Jagueyes, Aguas Buenas.
The President then took a motor trip from Aguas Buenas
to the Naval Base at San Juan, passing through El
Fanquito (slum area) en route.
The President then returned to the USS WILLIAMSBURG
for a rest.
He later took a sightseeing tour by automobile to
El Morro, passing through San Cristobal en route.
Later in the evening, the President attended an
informal reception at La Fortaleza where there were
approximately 500 guests.
In the evening the President gave a stag buffet
dinner aboard the USS WILLIAMSBURG for Governor
Pinero and his immediate staff and top-ranking
Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine officials,
present in San Juan.
