[Log of President Truman's Trip: Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Key West, Florida] |
The President arrived at Guantanamo Harbor at 1:40 p.m. aboard the USS WILLIAMSBURG. He anchored at the Officers' Club Landing and with his official party went ashore. Upon arrival, the President was greeted by Captain Battle and honors were rendered. Thereafter, the President inspected the Marine Honor Guard. Following this the President and Party motored to the Officers' Club for luncheon. There were about 40 guests present. About 3:15 p.m. the President and Party were con- ducted on a motor tour of the base. This tour ended at the Naval Air Station where the President and Party took an army plane for the return trip to Key West, Florida. They were airborn at 3:45 p.m. and arrived at Key West Naval Air Base (Boca Chica) at 6:30 p.m. Upon arriving, the President held an informal Press Conference at the airfield before returning to the Little White House. The President then motored to the Little White House and he and his Party retired for the evening. |
