Reel 1

0:00   Harry S. Truman speaks about programs presented to him after he left office by people that wanted him to promote the presidency into a job for himself. He never would let that happen, and turned them all down.
0:51   Mr. Truman speaks of having called Dwight D. Eisenhower during Mr. Eisenhower's visit to Kansas City, getting Mr. Eisenhower's secretary at the Muehlebach Hotel. Mr. Truman asked for an appointment so he could pay his respects to President Eisenhower. He was never called back, and did not get to visit him.
1:17   Mr. Truman says that the Republicans were interested in discrediting the Democratic Party, and therefore had to discredit him. They went to great lengths to do this, and "went mighty low, even for Republicans."
