0:00   Harry S. Truman speaking in the lobby of the Harry S. Truman Library about the mural "Independence and the Opening of the West" by Thomas Hart Benton.
The mural is intended to show three great trails. Mr. Truman discusses the history of the trails, Santa Fe, California, and Oregon, which originated in Independence.
2:19   Mr. Truman says when you come in here, look at everything and read the inscriptions. He discusses the five flags in the lobby; the 35th Division flag, the British, French, American, and Spanish flags. They represent the people who settled this part of the country. The flags had been given to the Liberty Memorial, and they set them in the basement and let them rot. The flags were now replaced and on display.
4:11   Mr. Truman says this is an educational institution.
Voice says "cut" and the film crew comes out. Library Director Dr. Philip Brooks and museum curator Milton Perry can be seen walking by in the background.
