Harry S. Truman, seated at a desk, speaks about the role of the Russians in the war with Japan. "I was determined, after our experience in Europe, we would not surrender control of Japan to the Russians." He was careful to set up a commission with only one Russian on it. We wanted control of the Japanese government ourselves.
