0:00   Harry S. Truman begins by saying he wants the American people to know the presidency as he has experienced it and "to know me as I am." He states he enjoyed his time in the Senate, the only legislative body in the world with unlimited debate. He did not expect the Senate to lead to the Presidency. He stated no man can be fully prepared for what lies ahead but he must he ready to face whatever happens. He had to do this when he became president after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's death. He had to bring the war to a victorious end and find ways to keep the peace in the face of new menaces—the Communist Russians and the Communist Chinese.
