BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Benjamin F. Weinberg was born on November 10, 1892, in Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. Weinberg met Harry S. Truman in Le Mans, France, shortly after the war, and they formed a lifelong friendship.

Weinberg was involved in manufacturing automobile brakes and in other business enterprises. Eventually, he became the owner of a chain of hotels, including the Park Lane Hotel in Denver, the Lankershim Hotel in Los Angeles, the Capitol Hotel in Amarillo, and the Kansas Citian Hotel in Kansas City. In 1958, he purchased a 220-acre tract of land in Grandview, Missouri, from Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Truman. The land became the site of the Truman Corners shopping center. Weinberg died in 1970.
