BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Robert A. Campbell served as the Deputy Transportation Project Officer for OPLAN Missouri, the Fifth U.S. Army’s plan for the funeral of President Harry S. Truman. He was principally involved with transportation arrangements in connection with Mr. Truman’s funeral in December 1972.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The papers of Robert A. Campbell contain materials relating to arrangements for the movement of military personnel assigned to the funeral of Harry S. Truman in December 1972. There is one series in the collection, a Subject File.

The collection includes plans for the implementation of the Fifth United States Army’s “OPLAN Missouri” in preparation for President Truman’s funeral. It also includes changes to OPLAN Missouri over the course of several years before the funeral. Information for the use of military personnel from the United States Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard is included. Also included are handwritten notes, data on the use of both civilian and military vehicles in the funeral, and a few related press clippings.
