Snapshot of President Harry S. Truman addressing a crowd in Iowa

Snapshot of President Harry S. Truman addressing a crowd in Iowa from the back of a train during a 1952 Whistlestop campaign tour. The sign on the train reads "Vote for Stevenson and Sparkman." He is accompanied by his daughter, Margaret Truman (right). In Iowa, as elsewhere on the coast to coast whistlestop tour, the routine was the same: Truman would come to the mike, say a few words, accept the cheers and "give 'em hell, Harry" shouts, and then say, "Now I want you to say hello to my greatest asset, my daughter Margaret." Margaret would step out of the body of car onto the platform.
